How it works
- Tell us what's going on. ZIP code, what you see or smell, and any lab report you already have.
- Site visit and moisture survey. We locate the source and measure the extent.
- Written bid. Itemized scope, containment plan, timeline and price. No vague "treatment" line items.
- Remediation and verification. Work to the protocol, then clearance testing where required.
Why Houston is mold country
Houston's dew points sit above 65°F for much of the year, A/C systems run nearly nonstop, and most homes are built on slabs with attics that can hit 140°F. Cold ducts in hot attics sweat; roofs leak slowly; and storms like Harvey (2017), Imelda (2019) and Beryl (2024) soak structures that then don't dry out.
Indoor mold needs only moisture and something organic to eat, and drywall paper and wood framing qualify. The fix is always the same sequence: stop the water, remove what can't be dried, clean what can, and verify. Read more in our post-flood guide, or see the broader science at Mold Macro.
Frequently asked questions
How much does mold removal cost in Houston?
Small, contained jobs (a bathroom wall, one attic section) often run from several hundred to a few thousand dollars. Larger projects with containment, removal of drywall and insulation, and clearance testing commonly run into the five figures. The price depends on square footage, materials affected and access. See our cost guide for a breakdown.
Do I need a mold test before removal?
For projects of 25 contiguous square feet or more in Texas, a licensed mold assessor generally has to write a protocol before remediation starts. For smaller areas, a visual inspection and moisture survey may be enough. Testing is also the only objective way to confirm the cleanup worked.
Is black mold more dangerous than other mold?
"Black mold" usually refers to Stachybotrys, but color alone doesn't tell you the species or the risk. Any indoor mold growth should be removed and its moisture source fixed. See Mold Macro for the broader science.
How fast can you come out?
Send a request with your ZIP code and a short description, and we'll respond with next steps. Active leaks and post-flood situations are prioritized.
Will my homeowners insurance cover mold?
It depends on the cause. Many Texas policies cover mold that results from a sudden, covered water event (like a burst pipe) and exclude mold from long-term leaks or flooding. Document everything and read your policy or call your agent before work starts.
Can I just clean it with bleach?
Bleach is not recommended on porous materials: it doesn't reach roots in drywall or wood, and it won't fix the moisture source. Non-porous surfaces smaller than about 10 sq ft can usually be cleaned by a homeowner with detergent and water while wearing an N95 and gloves.
