Mold Removal & Remediation in Houston

Containment, HEPA filtration, removal of affected materials and cleaning of surfaces, done to a written protocol.

Mold remediation is more than spraying something on a stain. A proper job finds and fixes the moisture source, contains the work area under negative pressure, removes materials that can't be cleaned (porous drywall, insulation, carpet pad), HEPA-vacuums and damp-wipes what remains, and then verifies the result.

In Texas, any project involving 25 contiguous square feet or more of visible mold generally requires a licensed assessor to write the remediation protocol and a separately licensed remediation contractor to carry it out. Smaller jobs are still worth doing right, and we scope them the same way.

What the process looks like

  1. Moisture source identified and corrected
  2. Containment and negative air set up
  3. Affected porous materials removed and bagged
  4. HEPA vacuum + damp wipe of remaining surfaces
  5. Dry-out and verification (clearance testing on larger jobs)

Frequently asked questions

How much does mold removal cost in Houston?

Small, contained jobs (a bathroom wall, one attic section) often run from several hundred to a few thousand dollars. Larger projects with containment, removal of drywall and insulation, and clearance testing commonly run into the five figures. The price depends on square footage, materials affected and access. See our cost guide for a breakdown.

Do I need a mold test before removal?

For projects of 25 contiguous square feet or more in Texas, a licensed mold assessor generally has to write a protocol before remediation starts. For smaller areas, a visual inspection and moisture survey may be enough. Testing is also the only objective way to confirm the cleanup worked.

Is black mold more dangerous than other mold?

"Black mold" usually refers to Stachybotrys, but color alone doesn't tell you the species or the risk. Any indoor mold growth should be removed and its moisture source fixed. See Mold Macro for the broader science.
