HVAC & Duct Mold in Houston

Mold in air handlers, drain pans, plenums and ductwork, a common Gulf Coast problem.

With A/C running most of the year, condensation is constant. Clogged drain lines, sweating ductwork in a hot attic and dirty coils all create the damp surfaces mold likes. Visible growth on supply registers is a symptom, so the source is usually upstream.

We coordinate with a licensed HVAC technician for coil, drain and duct repairs. Lined (fiberglass) ductwork that has grown mold generally can't be cleaned effectively and is replaced.

What the process looks like

  1. Inspect air handler, drain pan and plenum
  2. Test or sample where growth is suspected
  3. Clean or replace affected components
  4. Fix condensation source
  5. Verify airflow and humidity

Frequently asked questions

How much does mold removal cost in Houston?

Small, contained jobs (a bathroom wall, one attic section) often run from several hundred to a few thousand dollars. Larger projects with containment, removal of drywall and insulation, and clearance testing commonly run into the five figures. The price depends on square footage, materials affected and access. See our cost guide for a breakdown.

Do I need a mold test before removal?

For projects of 25 contiguous square feet or more in Texas, a licensed mold assessor generally has to write a protocol before remediation starts. For smaller areas, a visual inspection and moisture survey may be enough. Testing is also the only objective way to confirm the cleanup worked.

Is black mold more dangerous than other mold?

"Black mold" usually refers to Stachybotrys, but color alone doesn't tell you the species or the risk. Any indoor mold growth should be removed and its moisture source fixed. See Mold Macro for the broader science.
